The province says several health care providers will be allowed to reopen their doors once their individual regulatory bodies grant approval.

The list includes dentists, chiropractors, optometrists and physiotherapists. Some have still remained open on an emergency basis.

All regulated health professionals were ordered to cease all non-essential or elective work on March 19, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams has released a new directive on Tuesday, supporting the gradual resumption of all deferred procedures and non-essential work.

Health care providers are still encouraged to limit the number of in-person visits and they must comply with the requirements set out by the Ontario government.

Some of the guidelines include screening patients with questions over the phone before they come in and setting up plexiglass barriers at reception desks.

The College of Optometrists of Ontario says they are allowed to reopen Wednesday as they had their guidelines were set up a few weeks ago.

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario tells 680 NEWS they were made aware of the new directive Tuesday night and say they are in the process of amending their guidelines. They add they hope to have new details as soon as possible.
