hello uh Karina Roman CBC News when the
0:04
Liberals have won government most times
0:08
it's without needing to do well in the
0:10
West you're in the West you're headed to
0:11
Calgary uh you're here making your pitch
0:14
to voters in the West how do you
0:16
convince them that you care about their
0:19
issues if the West isn't key for the
0:21
Liberals in terms of a path to victory
0:24
well you know I let me say a couple of
0:26
things first um I'm not a career
0:28
politician uh I'm a pragmatist i'm here
0:30
to get things done i'm here to address a
0:33
series of crises the crisis first and
0:35
foremost with the United States um the
0:37
crisis in housing the cost of living
0:39
crisis um and I'm bringing that
0:41
perspective i am asking for through the
0:45
Liberal Party for the support of all
0:47
Canadians to serve all Canadians for
0:49
those crisis uh I happen to be from the
0:51
west um I have deep ties to Alberta
0:54
where I grew up ties to the territories
0:56
where I was born and ties to uh BC where
0:59
my uh my family uh my my mother and my
1:03
uh my sister now live uh I know the West
1:06
um and I think I have a good sense
1:09
butressed by uh our candidates here in
1:12
British Columbia of what's required and
1:15
the last point and I'll hand back is
1:17
that the scale of what we're announcing
1:20
today the scale and the and the degree
1:24
announcing spreads across the needs of
1:27
the west the needs and I'll speak
1:29
specifically to British Columbia um a
1:32
cutting edge industry as represented by
1:35
this company a huge challenge for our
1:41
housing integrating all of the solutions
1:44
back into the core that help build
1:47
British Columbia our forestry industry
1:49
and solving multiple problems at the
1:52
same time providing a better life for
1:54
people in the West and across Canada
1:56
that's the approach we'll take and
1:58
that's why we're here asking for the
2:00
support of voters in British Columbia
2:02
and across the West thank you
2:40
strategy the solution the grand
3:01
Britany first year okay um and for a
3:07
followup do you worry that making jokes
3:10
about Premier Daniel Smith will
3:12
contribute to Western alienation
3:15
uh it was a light-hearted comment um I
3:18
have a lot of respect for the premier uh
3:21
we've worked together including already
3:23
we've worked together including on the
3:25
agreement uh at first ministers the
3:27
unanimous agreement on first ministers
3:29
of having one Canadian economy as
3:31
opposed to 13 uh developing new trade
3:34
and energy corridors i refer uh to our
3:37
meeting in Ottawa of two and a half
3:39
weeks ago um there is a lot of
3:42
opportunity uh for Alberta for Canada
3:46
and uh my government will work will
3:48
spare no effort to make sure that the
3:51
people of Alberta the people of Canada
3:53
realize those opportunities thank you
