Disappointing: Carney promises to bring new blood into new cabinet, but appoints Trudeau's old team
May 14, 2025
The first disappointment is, unfortunately, his cabinet. He appointed Trudeau's old team and Trudeau's old advisors. ... If this is the new blood that Mr Carney is bringing into the cabinet, then sadly for Canadians, nothing is going to change and the role of the Conservative Party will be more important than ever. Conservatives will continue to push real solutions. We'll put forward constructive ideas to reverse the housing crisis, make food affordable, and grow our paychecks. These sorts of things cannot be solved with more bureaucracy and Liberal laws. We need common sense results.

uh so I'd like to begin today um in
0:02
English by congratulating the new
0:04
ministers for their roles It's literally
0:06
a one ina- million opportunity I think
0:08
they have 40 ministers in total and
0:10
there's about 41 million people So it's
0:12
literally one in a million to be a
0:14
minister and uh big accomplishment to
0:16
get to that place The Conservatives will
0:19
take our role of holding the government
0:20
accountable seriously That doesn't mean
0:23
we reflex we reflexively oppose
0:25
everything the government does Uh when
0:28
it comes for example to foreign affairs
0:30
if the government does a good job at
0:32
defending our national interests and
0:33
negotiations with the US then we will
0:36
support those efforts Um and uh when
0:39
they're right we'll stand with them When
0:40
they're wrong we will oppose them We
0:43
hope the country succeeds We want the
0:45
nation to do well We ran on the promise
0:48
of bringing home Canada's promise the
0:51
very simple deal that Canada used to
0:53
provide which is that anyone who works
0:55
hard gets a great life in an affordable
0:57
home on a safe street under our proud
1:00
flag That means boosting the buying
1:02
power of our workers and seniors by
1:04
cutting wasteful spending and
1:06
bureaucracy to bring down taxes and
1:07
inflation It means freeing workers and
1:10
businesses to build more affordable
1:11
homes and develop resources It means
1:13
unleashing investment by cutting and
1:15
simplifying taxes It means protecting
1:17
our streets with stronger laws and
1:19
borders Canadians cannot afford more
1:22
high-spending high taxing overregulating
1:25
outofouch liberal policies that have
1:26
priced young people out of homes
1:28
inflicted crime waves on our communities
1:30
driven 2 million people to the food bank
1:33
and made life unbearable for too many
1:37
hardworking and decent people In his
1:39
first press conference Mr Carney talked
1:41
a good game about reversing liberal
1:44
policies in these areas but now we have
1:46
to find out if he was serious And so far
1:48
it's not a promising start The first
1:51
disappointment is unfortunately his
1:53
cabinet Uh he appointed Trudeau's old
1:55
team and Trudeau's old adviserss Steven
2:00
Gilbo whose radical green agenda would
2:02
shut down all future developments in our
2:04
resource industry is still the minister
2:06
responsible for Quebec Sean
2:09
Frasier is the immigration min was the
2:12
immigration minister who caused the
2:13
immigration crisis The housing minister
2:16
who gave us the housing crisis and now
2:18
he's the minister responsible for
2:20
addressing the liberal crime crisis It
2:23
seems like he is the master at failing
2:25
upward Christia Freeland who as finance
2:28
minister hiked capital gains tax and
2:30
carbon taxes and uh massively grew our
2:34
debt to the point where we now spend a
2:35
billion dollars a week on interest stays
2:38
in the cabinet Then there's Gary Anna
2:41
Desangari the new Minister of Public
2:44
Safety who said the actual crimes the
2:47
actual issues around bail are quite
2:48
sound and they are embedded in codified
2:51
in law right now As in to say that
2:53
there's nothing wrong with the system
2:55
Well in fact there's everything wrong as
2:57
we see from the growing crime wave on
2:59
our streets Then there's Fran Fifa
3:01
Champagne Trudeau's minister of
3:03
everything who never really managed to
3:06
do
3:09
anything and he did it very loudly But
3:13
um nice guy I'll give him credit He's a
3:16
nice guy But he was the minister of
3:18
industry during which we had the worst
3:20
economic growth of any country in the G7
3:23
And now he's in charge of the budget Uh
3:25
then there's Jolie Leblon Haidu Anan
3:29
Anan was the president president of the
3:30
secret of the treasury board during
3:33
which time the bureaucracy and the the
3:35
consultant bills blew blew out of
3:37
control In all 14 Trudeau ministers are
3:40
now in Carney's cabinet It's more of the
3:43
same when Canada needs real change Even
3:46
the new additions are are problematic
3:49
Greor Robertson was the mayor of
3:51
Vancouver who pushed for total
3:54
legalization of hard drugs distribution
3:56
of taxfunded opioids during his time
3:59
there Six there was a 600% increase in
4:02
overdoses Now he's the housing minister
4:05
Well what's his record on housing Well
4:07
he increased housing taxes in Vancouver
4:09
by 147 41% And the result was that
4:13
housing costs drove went up by
4:17
149% More than doubling the cost and
4:20
giving Vancouver his city the most
4:23
expensive housing prices in all of North
4:26
America Now Mr Carney puts this
4:29
gentleman in charge of housing If this
4:32
is the new blood that Mr Carney is
4:34
bringing into the cabinet then sadly for
4:36
Canadians nothing is going to change and
4:38
the role of the Conservative Party will
4:40
be more important than ever
4:42
Conservatives will continue to push real
4:44
solutions We'll put forward constructive
4:46
ideas to reverse the housing crisis make
4:49
food affordable and grow our paychecks
4:52
And this can't these sorts of things
4:53
cannot be solved with more bureaucracy
4:55
and liberal laws We need common sense
4:58
results And uh that's why Conservatives
5:01
will continue to push for less spending
5:03
less taxes less inflation to lock up
5:06
criminals remove bureaucracy speed up
5:08
home building and resource production We
5:11
need to put forward real solutions on
5:13
crime for example to toughen up
5:14
penalties for repeat violent offenders
5:16
and end the revolving door of broken
5:19
bail We will also demand the government
5:21
actually impose a real cap on
5:23
immigration so that we can stop the
5:25
uncontrolled population growth that has
5:27
over have put too much pressure on our
5:30
housing job and healthcare systems
5:33
Finally and most importantly the only
5:35
way we get out of this deep economic
5:37
trouble the Liberals have got us into is
5:39
by unleashing economic growth And that
5:42
means repealing anti-development laws
5:45
C69 the energy cap the industrial carbon
5:48
tax uh the offshore shipping ban All of
5:52
these things need to be reversed that we
5:53
can unleash the incredible power of our
5:57
resources We need a progrowth free
6:00
enterprise agenda to take us from the
6:02
worst in the G7 to the best in the G7 We
6:05
should be the richest country in the
6:08
world with our resources and our
6:10
brilliant people and conservatives will
6:12
continue to propose real solutions to
6:14
make that happen It's our constitutional
6:16
duty to hold the government to account
6:18
and we will do that We'll give a voice
6:19
to all the voiceless those who've been
6:21
cast aside ignored kicked to the curb
6:24
the decent honorable people whose lives
6:26
have been turned upside down in the last
6:27
decade that feel like they've had until
6:30
recently that they've had no voice
6:32
They've they've asked me to continue to
6:33
fight for them and conservatives are
6:35
going to be their voice on the floor of
6:37
the House of Commons We've we've proud
6:39
we're proud that we brought together the
6:41
biggest co coalition of Conservatives in
6:43
history They will all work We want to
6:46
make sure that every single person who
6:48
vested their hopes in us sees us
6:49
fighting for them every day even though
6:51
the final result did not go how we
6:53
wanted We want to see dramatic changes
6:56
not soft reassurances We and we also
7:00
have an offer to make the Liberals My
7:03
message to Mr Carney steal my
7:05
ideas We've got great ideas And we've
7:09
been leading the charge on the debate
7:10
over carbon taxes inflation housing
7:13
prices crime drugs resource development
7:17
and I I note the Liberals even lifted a
7:19
few of those ideas and put them in their
7:21
platform to get reelected We want to
7:22
make sure that they were sincere about
7:24
that And we're going to continue to put
7:26
forward solid ideas to pe make people's
7:28
lives better every day because our
7:32
purpose is to bring home the promise of
7:34
Canada that everyone who works hard gets
7:36
a great life That anyone from anywhere
7:38
can do anything where you get a nice
7:40
affordable home on a safe street every
7:43
day and in every day every way We will
7:45
fight for our people and our country to
7:47
put people back in charge of their lives
7:49
with bigger paychecks abundant
7:51
affordable energy home ownership low
7:53
taxes safe streets and a strong military
7:56
in the country that we know and love
7:58
Canada Thank you
8:02
Can you just repeat your answer again in
8:03
English about your tone and if we're
8:04
going to see that in the House as well
8:06
Well you know I think it was Lincoln who
8:08
said "I stand with a man when he stands
8:10
right and I stand against him when he
8:11
stands wrong." So let's see what the
8:13
government does Uh the previous
8:15
government to be frank was a disaster
8:17
and so we had every reason to oppose
8:20
every basically everything they did Um
8:23
but here we are a few weeks after the
8:25
election where 8 million people vested
8:28
their hopes in me to deliver for them
8:30
And the best way I can do that is put
8:33
forward good ideas that will make their
8:34
housing afford and their food affordable
8:36
Let their streets be safe Give them a
8:38
chance at growing paychecks So when we
8:41
put forward good ideas and the
8:43
government accepts them then we're going
8:44
to be celebrating Um where the
8:46
government acts against the interests of
8:48
the country then we will fight tooth and
8:50
nail to stop them So we will we will
8:51
fight for the 8 million people who voted
8:53
for us and we will work with anyone that
8:56
will deliver gains for those people
8:58
because we're in it for them and for all
9:00
Canadians Did you announce you denounce
9:02
are you willing to uh publicly denounce
9:05
Alberta separatism and the Alberta
9:06
separatist movement ahead of a possible
9:08
referendum on Alberta independence next
9:11
year Look I'm I'm against separation I'm
9:13
a born and raised Albertan I love Canada
9:16
Um I think we we need to unite this
9:19
country Um Albertans have a lot of uh
9:23
legitimate grievances Let's be blunt
9:26
their in their biggest Canada's biggest
9:28
industry which happens to largely be
9:30
situated in Alberta has been under
9:32
attack for the last decade They've had
9:35
two they've lost two major pipelines and
9:37
a 20 billion mine There's a new uh
9:41
ridiculous energy cap that's going to
9:43
drive jobs and production south to the
9:45
United States of America There's an
9:47
industrial carbon tax that's going to
9:49
kill our uh kill the industry Um and so
9:54
frankly Albertans have a right to be
9:56
frustrated And I think the message to
10:00
the government in Ottawa the Liberal
10:02
government is you can't tell Alberta to
10:04
just pay up and shut up Albertans want
10:06
to be part of a united Canada but they
10:09
deserve to be treated with respect and
10:11
they deserve to be honored for the
10:13
immense contribution that they make to
10:15
this country And I will be a unifier who
10:18
works to bring all Albertans to a place
10:21
where they feel that they are respected
10:23
and honored in our wonderful country
10:28
On the count of two seats away from a
10:31
majority government the NDP has said
10:33
that they already have some feelers
10:34
going out from the Liberals to them to
10:36
poach some of their members of
10:37
parliament Do you have any indication
10:39
that the Liberals are trying to get any
10:41
of your MPs to cross the floor I do not
10:44
And what are you doing to stop that Are
10:46
is your tone right now more consiliatory
10:49
to maybe make sure that you don't have
10:50
any conservative MPs who might want to
10:52
go be with the government No What
10:56
message Canada US file On the Canada US
10:59
file we're seeing Benji moved off
11:01
foreign affairs David McGinty moved off
11:03
public safety What impact do you think
11:05
this will have with the Canada US
11:07
relationship Is it good or bad
11:13
To tell you the truth I don't know I
11:15
don't know I don't have a line of sight
11:18
on what they were doing before those
11:20
individual ministers or who has uh who
11:23
has lead on the who has has really had
11:25
lead on on the file But um what I would
11:28
say is that we want to get a deal done
11:31
to end the uh
11:33
tariff insanity to restore stability and
11:38
bring about the greatest friendship
11:40
restore the greatest friendship that the
11:42
world has ever known between two
11:44
different countries
